E-Rate Frequently Asked Questions

What is E-Rate?

E-Rate is the common name for the Schools and Libraries Universal Service Support
Mechanism. E-Rate provides discounts to assist schools and libraries to obtain affordable telecommunication services and Internet access. The Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) administers the program at the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). USAC’s Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) administers the program.

E-Rate is a discount program – NOT a grant program.

Applicants do NOT automatically receive funding once it has been rewarded.

Funding is based on estimated usage, and disbursement is based upon actual usage.

You must file every school year.
